Wilson Golf Equipment - A Quality Brand
-
Wilson is probably not one of the premier brands that pops in your head when you think of golf clubs despite having a great history with golf and winning championships. A major player in various sports, one might imagine a Wilson tennis racquet or a dirty volleyball on an uninhabited island decorated with the personification of a human face before they envision the golf equipment imprinted with the six letter corporate insignia.
Wilson is one of the planet’s most predominate sporting goods manufacturers. Still, they have not been given the recognition within the golf world that companies such as Nike and Callaway have attained. Though underrated, this does not mean that Wilson should be neglected or passed over. This is why players can reap great value out of these reasonably priced clubs.
The quality is there; why else would professionals like Rickie Barnes and Padraig Harrington (endorsed by Wilson since 1998) play with Wilson clubs?
Wilson cannot compete with the way Tiger Woods has pervasively branded the Nike image but this means that recreational golfers can get great value out of their purchase. Again, these are no kiddie clubs and some of the biggest names in golf are giving them a try.
“Wilson Golf is proud to continue its relationship with Ricky Barnes," said Wilson Golf’s general manager Tim Clarke. “Ricky’s style of play and on-course demeanor couldn’t be a better match for the Wilson brand. He’s working hard, having fun and playing great. In fact, his play has truly connected with the younger, serious golfer and helped that player connect with our legacy of performance.”
“I'm excited about my partnership with Wilson Golf, a company that has such a rich golf championship history and heritage,” said Barnes. “I’ve played great golf since switching to the Wilson Staff FG Tour irons and my confidence has translated into success on the course. With a great R&D team working with me, I’m looking forward to achieving even greater success in the years ahead on the PGA Tour.”
Is it a coincidence that Ping, TaylorMade, Titleist, Callaway and Nike are all significantly more expensive than Wilson? Does expensive necessarily mean better? In this case: perhaps not. Many Wilson clubs are quite nice and those in the market willing to give them a try are often pleasantly surprised by the results. Drivers, hybrids, irons and fairway woods are some of the clubs manufactured by Wilson.
Not many people know about the quality and cost efficiency of Wilson golf equipment. Wilson focuses on creating technologically advanced products that help the average players perform better. These clubs are good for children, beginners and intermediate players looking to invest in their improvements without going for the more exorbitant over-hyped products (the advantages of which they might not be able to benefit from).
The Wilson Pro Staff Golf Clubs are some of the best on the market in their moderate price range. They do not get the attention they deserve but those looking to improve with a solid new set should definitely check them out.
All the woods offer a low center of gravity. The Pro Staff Full Set includes a nice driver offering a swept footprint for a higher Moment of Inertia (MOI) with an impressive 460cc head. Accuracy and distance are controlled by the low center of gravity. Soft grips provide a cushioned impact and stable backswing. The top line of these irons offers nice alignment enhanced by stainless steel. Hybrids and woods are enforced with True Temper steel. These hybrids are well worth it, with capabilities to safely get out of any lie.
Wilson clubs are more than decent for those looking to take it to the next level. Better than an old set or a cheap set at a warehouse store, Wilson is trying to make a larger imprint in the golf market, forging forward with reliable products intended to improve performance without all the bells and whistles.
Wilson will never rob you blind with their golf equipment. The $300 price tag for the entire set (driver, 3 and 4 hybrids, 5 through pitching wedge and 3 and 5 woods) makes this a wonderful purchase for anyone willing to work with their technique to improve their handicap without sacrificing a thousand dollars or more.

For the past several years I have been using a set of Wilson Deep Red irons. They are wonderful and enable me to do play quite well. Also, I have a friend who is currently the head pro at one of the better golf courses in the Grand Rapids area. He use to be the assistant pro at a golf retail store where his job was to check the accuracy of the lies on new clubs received and make adjustments on an as required basis. He once told me of all the clubs he worked with the Wilson clubs were the only ones where the lie of the club was always accurate and required no adjustments on his part.
