KBS C-Taper Golf Shafts - Quick Acceptance on PGA Tour
-
To say that KBS C-Tapers are taking the golf world by storm would be understating the obvious. Since KBS introduced its C-Taper shafts the first week of May, three major manufacturers adopted C-Tapers for their respective custom departments. To date, Nike Golf, Ping Golf, and Cleveland Golf are now using KBS C-Tapers.
Rob Cheng, Director of Global Operations for KBS said, “The announcements of Nike, Ping, and now Cleveland Golf’s custom departments adopting the KBS C-Taper shaft is fantastic news for the KBS brand. Our team spent a lot of time orchestrating the successful launch of this product with several months spent conducting internal testing, player testing, and finally independent robot tests.”
Results on the PGA Tour have been stellar, too. In recent weeks, Steve Stricker, Justin Rose, Darren Clarke, and Dustin Johnson have all recorded one or more victories after switching to the KBS C-Tapers.
According to KBS officials, technology behind the KBS C-Taper is based on optimal shaft geometry taken from the KBS Tour design with calculated changes made in taper rate and section balance for a unique performance. Designed to lower launch and reduce ball spin, the KBS C-Taper shaft target players with a faster swing tempo and higher trajectory. Taking concepts from the KBS Tour shaft for efficient shaft performance, the KBS C-Taper proved in independent robot testing to reduce spin by five percent, lower trajectory by five percent, and increase distance by five percent – up to 12 yards total – versus the leading competitor. KBS C-Taper highlights include:
- Constant taper design for unrestricted energy transfer
- Optimized taper and tip section for low launch and low spin performance
- Offered in five unique flexes for precision fitting
- Unique and highly durable satin chrome finish
- Available nationwide as of Sept. 1, 2011
Kim Braly, designer of the KBS C-Taper, has been specializing in iron shaft technology and development since the 1970s. His previous design efforts include the Rifle and Project X Series of iron shafts. “The KBS Tour catalog is quickly being recognized as the most advanced and impactful steel shaft series to ever hit the golf industry,” says Braly. “As evidenced by the success of KBS C-Taper, players worldwide are recognizing the performance this shaft offers the best golfers in the world. Having this shaft adopted into custom by major manufacturers like Cleveland, Nike, and Ping is a tribute to the C-Tapers absolute performance.”
Outstanding Technology
The C-Taper uniquely accomplishes its five percent claims of less spin, lower trajectory, and more distance, by providing a Stiff Tip and the advanced Constant Taper, thus the name C-Taper. According to company officials, the Stiff Tip design adds stability near the club head to do one thing well, and that’s deliver a piercing ball flight.
The Constant Taper assists in adding distance and that unparalleled KBS feel to the piercing ball flight.
This is achieved by modifying the formula for outer diameter and wall thickness proportionality, and increasing the outer diameter nearer the tip. This unique balance of mass and taper maintains optional energy transfer for feel and distance with a low piercing trajectory.
A final testament to the versatility and performance of the KBS C-Taper can be found in the bag of Justin Rose, who recently won the BMW Championship. He plays with two wedges from different manufacturers. His 54 degree club is a TaylorMade TP with xFT and his 60 degree is a Titleist Vokey Design Spin Mill, both fitted with the same shafts as his irons, the KBS Tour C-Taper shafts.
