Katherine Roberts' New Book Will Get You in the Swing for Next Season

Just in time for reading over the winter months, Katherine Roberts’ new book will get you ready for next golf season. Swing Flaws and Fitness Fixes: Fix Your Swing by Putting Flexibility, Strength, and Stamina in Your Golf Bag (Gotham Books; $20) explains and corrects the many golf swing flaws that result not from improper technique, but from poor physical fitness. Teaming with famed swing coach Hank Haney, Roberts, a Golf Channel fitness expert, outlines a precise combination of flexibility and strength training.

With tips and step-by-step guidance for warming up properly, developing a stronger, healthier back and core, and obtaining better balance and longevity in the game, Swing Flaws and Fitness Fixes will get any golfer in shape to play their best. Roberts’ program features:

-The ideal warm-up exercises for golfers

-Techniques for simultaneously improving posture, balance, and strength

-Exercises to obtain yoga-quality levels of flexibility

-Nine of the most common swing flaws, from “coming over the top” to the “chicken wing”

-A full workout program for better back health and stronger core muscles

The book is broken down into sections that address different aspects of the game. The first few chapters address the anatomy of the golf swing, explaining why fitness is essential and how to prepare your body and mind to play as well as possible. The middle chapters of the book focus on major swing flaws, like the aforementioned chicken wing. The latter chapters explain the Roberts Flex-Fit Method (RFFM), which is a routine for building strength and flexibility in the core, as well as working to coordinate large muscle-motion with often overlooked components of the swing, like the eyes and feet.

“In more than 20 years of fitness training, my students run the gamut from juniors to seniors, the physically challenged to high performance professional athletes,” says Roberts. These collective experiences have resulted in the RFFM. One of the most important components of this unique wellness program is the importance of breathing. “For most of us we spend our days holding our breath, or breathing in very shallow, short strokes,” says Roberts. “You will learn proper breathing techniques, the sports and life applications of various breathing techniques, and the appropriate applications for such techniques. Most important, we use the breath to quiet the mind, facilitate ‘moving inward’ and help you practice mindful intention.”

Roberts is the producer of nine fitness DVDs and author of the ground-breaking book Yoga for Golfers. She also serves as the flexibility expert for the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball club, recently completing her fourth season with the team. Roberts’ successful career has been highlighted in USA TODAY, Golf Magazine, the now defunct Golf for Women, Golf Week and U.S. Airways Magazine.

Enhanced with more than 100 photographs of Roberts performing the exercises, Swing Flaws and Fitness Fixes is an invigorating new approach that not only solves age-old golfing woes, but enables you to become a healthier, more vibrant person on and off the course.  http://krflexfit.com/.
