US PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem has received a four-year contract extension that will run through June 2016, the tour said Wednesday.

"Under Tim's leadership, and that of his Executive Team, the PGA TOUR has achieved many very significant accomplishments," said Victor Ganzi, Chairman of the PGA TOUR Policy Board.

"Tim has positioned the TOUR for continued growth in areas such as player prize money, charity, sponsor value and growing the game around the world, and we are fortunate that he has agreed to continue as Commissioner for another four years."

Finchem became the US tour's third commissioner in June 1994.

While he presided over a period of overall growth, he has also had to steer the circuit through the difficulties of the recent economic crisis and the drop in form of golf's most marketable player -- Tiger Woods.

Even so, the tour announced in September that it had signed its longest US network television contracts for rights through 2021.

The record-setting nine-year deals with CBS and NBC extend the current contracts, set to expire in 2012, through the 2021 season.

"We have accomplished a lot, but there remains a great opportunity to continue to grow over the next four years," Finchem said.

"It is an honor to work in such a wonderful sport with the world's best athletes and a terrific management team. I look forward to continuing to work closely with them in the future."

Finchem, 64, followed Joe Dey and Deane Beman as commissioner. He played a key role in developing such events as The Presidents Cup, the World Golf Championships, the FedExCup and the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.
