iGolf, a division of L1 Technologies, announced today that iGolf Mobile, a golf GPS platform for smartphones, is the top free Sports Application in the Amazon Android AppStore.

iGolf Mobile provides golfers around the world with precise distances to the front, center and back of the green, as well as custom points such as bunkers, water and other hazards on each hole. Other key features include video swing analysis, golf news, opinion articles, as well as independent course, equipment and travel destination reviews.

"Knowing Amazon's popularity and reach, we knew that the launch of the Amazon Appstore would present a valuable opportunity for iGolf Mobile to reach new customers. To find out three weeks later we are the top free sports application is very rewarding and a testament to iGolf's staff and Amazon's services." said Gary Symington, General Manager of the iGolf division.

Amazon's computing services, also known as Amazon Web Services or AWS, have been a long time component of iGolf's success. iGolf, widely considered a leader in technology for the golf industry, integrated with Amazon's AWS Beta service in the Fall of 2008 and has not looked back. Utilizing services such as Elastic Compute Cloud and Simple Storage Service has allowed iGolf to expand into new market segments previously inaccessible without the power of the cloud.

"The use of Amazon Web Services plays a critical role in our ability to remain scalable and secure," said Brian Verdugo, President of L1 Technologies. Several other divisions within L1 regularly use AWS as a vital part of their infrastructure.
